50 Ideas for Paintings & Illustrations for when you feel stuck
We all have those days where we want to draw or paint, but don’t know what to draw or where to start. That’s why I like to keep a list of prompts that will give me ideas that help get my creative juices flowing. So for today, here’s a list of prompts that can give you the inspiration to get started on creating!
I broke it down in to different sections based on subject, so it’s easier to find a prompt for something your in mood to create!
Character Design Prompts
If you're in the mood to draw characters, you could draw;
- A knight
- An angel (traditionally or biblically accurate!)
- A set of twins
- A royal family
- A hunter
- A falconer
- A scholar/student
- An aristocrat
- A warrior
- A pilot
Landscape Prompts
If you want to draw some pretty landscapes, you could draw;
- Mountain range at sunset
- A beach at night
- A forest covered in snow
- A cloudy prairie
- A meadow full of flowers
- A coastline in stormy weather
- An entrance to a cave
- A garden
- A lake or series of lakes
- A misty waterfall
Architecture Prompts
If you'd like to practice drawing buildings, you could draw;
- An abandoned building
- A church
- A medieval fort
- An old castle
- A skyscraper
- A large gate
- An old school/college
- A greenhouse
- A light tower
- A clock tower
Object Prompts
If you'd like something small and easy to draw, you could try;
- A hand mirror
- A vase
- An old photo (with or without a frame)
- A car
- A radio
- A jar filled with contents (like jam or candy)
- Shoes
- A crown
- Jewelry
- Books
Miscellaneous
And here are some random ideas!
- Your favorite and/or most recent photo
- A childhood toy
- A character from your favorite book, movie, and/or TV show
- A model wearing an outfit you recently wore
- An object from a game you recently played
- Your favorite flower
- An animal you've recently seen
- The cover of a book you read
- Your own original character
- Your OC wearing a new outfit
And there you have it, 50 prompts to help you get started on a drawing/painting! You can strictly follow the prompts, or add a creative twist to it, or even mix prompts! Whatever gets the ball rolling and helps you start creating~
