50 Ideas for Paintings & Illustrations for when you feel stuck

We all have those days where we want to draw or paint, but don’t know what to draw or where to start. That’s why I like to keep a list of prompts that will give me ideas that help get my creative juices flowing. So for today, here’s a list of prompts that can give you the inspiration to get started on creating!

I broke it down in to different sections based on subject, so it’s easier to find a prompt for something your in mood to create!

Character Design Prompts

If you're in the mood to draw characters, you could draw;

  1. A knight
  2. An angel (traditionally or biblically accurate!)
  3. A set of twins
  4. A royal family
  5. A hunter
  6. A falconer
  7. A scholar/student
  8. An aristocrat
  9. A warrior
  10. A pilot

Landscape Prompts

If you want to draw some pretty landscapes, you could draw;

  1. Mountain range at sunset
  2. A beach at night
  3. A forest covered in snow
  4. A cloudy prairie
  5. A meadow full of flowers
  6. A coastline in stormy weather
  7. An entrance to a cave
  8. A garden
  9. A lake or series of lakes
  10. A misty waterfall

Architecture Prompts

If you'd like to practice drawing buildings, you could draw;

  1. An abandoned building
  2. A church
  3. A medieval fort
  4. An old castle
  5. A skyscraper
  6. A large gate
  7. An old school/college
  8. A greenhouse
  9. A light tower
  10. A clock tower

Object Prompts

If you'd like something small and easy to draw, you could try;

  1. A hand mirror
  2. A vase
  3. An old photo (with or without a frame)
  4. A car
  5. A radio
  6. A jar filled with contents (like jam or candy)
  7. Shoes
  8. A crown
  9. Jewelry
  10. Books

Miscellaneous

And here are some random ideas!

  1. Your favorite and/or most recent photo
  2. A childhood toy
  3. A character from your favorite book, movie, and/or TV show
  4. A model wearing an outfit you recently wore
  5. An object from a game you recently played
  6. Your favorite flower
  7. An animal you've recently seen
  8. The cover of a book you read
  9. Your own original character
  10. Your OC wearing a new outfit

And there you have it, 50 prompts to help you get started on a drawing/painting! You can strictly follow the prompts, or add a creative twist to it, or even mix prompts! Whatever gets the ball rolling and helps you start creating~
